Taking Care of you Vetfleece

All of our Vet Fleece comes with a sewn-on washing label. We recommended that the Greenback Vetfleece is washed at 40°C, but vet fleece can handle much higher washing temperatures of up to Autoclavable standard 120°C, which is normally used in veterinarian practices to kill all bacteria but this temperature does shorten the life time of the vet fleece if used all the time. Our non-slip fleece can be washed at temperatures up to 40°C, any hotter than this and the backing can start to deteriorate.

Yes, 1200gsm vet bedding is considered a heavyweight, premium-quality fleece. Combined with a 25–28mm pile depth, it provides excellent cushioning, insulation, and comfort. For customers looking for premium vet bedding, soft dog bedding, and warm dog bedding, 1200gsm is a strong indicator of quality when stated correctly.

Does deeper pile mean better support? +

In many cases, yes. A deeper, denser pile can provide a more cushioned resting surface, which may help pets feel more comfortable when lying down. This is one reason why deep-pile veterinary grade dog bedding is popular for puppies, senior dogs, and dogs needing extra comfort.

What is the difference between GSM and linear metre weight? +

This is where confusion often happens.nnGSM = grams per square metrenlinear metre weight = the weight of one metre length of fabric across its full widthnIf a fleece is 1200gsm and the fabric width is 1.5m, then one linear metre of that fabric may weigh the equivalent of:nn1200n×n1.5n=n1800n grams per linear metren1200×1.5=1800 grams per linear metrennBut that does not make the fabric 1800gsm. It is still 1200gsm.

So is 1800gsm always misleading? +

Not always, but it should be questioned carefully. A true 1800gsm fleece would mean the fabric genuinely weighs 1800 grams per square metre, which is a very different claim from saying a 1200gsm fleece weighs 1800 grams per linear metre at 1.5m wide.nnIf a seller is using width-based maths to inflate the number, then the advertised GSM is misleading.

Can a true 1800gsm fleece be made on a circular knitting machine? +

Typically, no, not in the standard way most Vetbed or knitted fleece fabrics are produced. If a seller claims a knitted fleece is 1800gsm, it is reasonable to ask for clarification on:nnhow the GSM was measurednwhether it is true grams per square metrenwhether they are confusing GSM with linear metre weightnwhat machinery was used

When comparing vetfleece products, look at:nntrue GSMnpile depthnsoftness and densitynwhether the product is genuinely designed as veterinary beddingnwhether the seller explains measurements clearlyndurability and washing performancenwhether it is suitable for crates, kennels, puppies, and whelping boxesnA fleece with a 25–28mm pile and true 1200gsm density offers a strong combination of comfort and performance.

Is your 1200gsm Vetfleece still considered premium? +

Yes. A true 1200gsm Vetfleece bedding with a luxurious 25–28mm deep pile is absolutely a premium vet bedding product. It provides exceptional softness, warmth, cushioning, and support, making it ideal for pets that need a comfortable, high-quality fleece surface.

Is dense Vetfleece better for joint support? +

A denser fleece with a deeper pile can offer better cushioning than thinner alternatives. This is especially helpful for dogs that benefit from a softer resting area, including senior pets, recovering pets, and puppies. That is why many owners choose heavyweight vet bedding for dogs when comfort is a priority.

What is the honest way to describe your Vetfleece? +

The clearest and most accurate way to describe it is:nnAll Vetfleece bedding features a luxurious 25–28mm deep pile and a true 1200gsm density, offering exceptional softness, warmth and joint support.nnThat gives customers a transparent, industry-correct understanding of the product’s quality.

Can vet bedding be used in dog crates? +

Some customers search for waterproof vet bedding, but it is important to understand the difference between waterproof and moisture-draining bedding. For best results, it can be paired with absorbent puppy pads underneath.

While no bedding is completely immune from every possible stain, hygienic bedding for dogs like this is designed to resist everyday soiling better than many alternatives.

Does vet bedding hold smells? +

New fleece may sometimes have a slight manufacturing smell when first unpacked, but this usually fades quickly. Once in use, hygienic pet bedding that is washed regularly should stay fresh and pleasant. Because the material is designed to be easy to clean, it is often preferred over heavier pet beds that trap odours.

Does vetfleece shed, fray, or moult? +

Vetbed should not significantly moult, though some slight edge fraying can happen after cutting or during the first washes. This is normal and usually settles quickly. Following the care instructions helps maintain the appearance of your vet fleece dog bedding.

Will the colour fade after washing? +

Premium vet bedding is designed for repeated washing, so colours should remain bright when washed according to the care instructions. Over time, all textiles may show signs of use, but well-made washable dog bedding is intended to keep its appearance for as long as possible.

What should I do if my dog chews or eats vet bedding? +

This combination creates a premium vet bedding surface that is comfortable for puppies, adult dogs, elderly pets, and animals needing extra joint support.

What is the GSM of your Vet bedding? +

Our Vetfleece bedding is a true 1200gsm fabric, with a deep 25–28mm pile. This gives you a thick, warm, and supportive fleece suitable for vet bedding, puppy vet bedding, whelping box bedding, dog crate bedding, and dog kennel bedding.

Why is pile depth important in Vetfleece? +

Pile depth affects how soft, cushioned, and comfortable the fleece feels. A 25–28mm deep pile gives Vetfleece a more luxurious feel and helps provide:nnextra comfortnwarmth and insulationnbetter cushioningnsupport for jointsna more premium finishnThis is especially useful for bedding for elderly dogs, post surgery dog bedding, bedding for recovery dogs, and bedding for newborn puppies.

Why do some sellers claim their fleece is 1800gsm? +

Some sellers advertise 1800gsm vet bedding, but in all cases this figure is not the true fabric GSM. What they may be doing is taking a genuine fabric weight of 1200gsm and multiplying it by 1.5, based on the material width being 1.5 metres.nnThat does not mean the fleece is truly 1800gsm.

Why is multiplying 1200gsm by 1.5 incorrect? +

Because GSM already means grams per square metre. It is already an area-based measurement. You do not multiply GSM by the fabric width to create a new GSM figure.nnFor example:nntrue weight = 1200gsmnfabric width = 1.5 metresnThis does not make the fleece 1800gsmnnIt only means that one linear metre of fabric at 1.5m wide contains more total material than one square metre, but the GSM itself remains 1200gsm.

What is the maximum GSM a circular knitting machine can usually knit? +

As a general industry guide, the maximum a circular knitting machine can usually knit is around 1500gsm. This is why very high GSM claims above that level should be treated with caution unless the seller can clearly explain how the fabric is produced and how the GSM has been measured.

Why is true GSM important when buying vet bedding? +

True GSM matters because it helps you compare products fairly. If one seller lists genuine 1200gsm vet fleece and another seller inflates the figure to 1800gsm by using fabric width, customers may think they are buying a much denser product when they are not.nnAccurate GSM helps buyers make informed decisions when choosing vet bedding, vet bed, vet fleece, and veterinary bedding.

Does a higher claimed GSM always mean better quality? +

No. A higher number only matters if it is accurate. A genuine 1200gsm premium vet bedding product can be far better than a lower-quality fleece marketed with an inflated or misleading GSM claim. Quality depends on the true weight, pile depth, fibre quality, construction, and finishing.

Why do genuine specifications matter? +

Clear and honest product specifications help customers trust what they are buying. If a seller labels a fleece as 1800gsm when it is actually 1200gsm multiplied by the 1.5m fabric width, that can create a misleading impression of thickness and density.nnBeing transparent about true GSM helps customers compare products properly.

How does 1200gsm Vetfleece help with warmth and comfort? +

The combination of dense fabric weight and a deep pile creates a fleece that traps warmth while remaining soft and supportive. This makes it ideal as:nnwarm dog beddingncomfortable dog beddingnheat retaining dog beddingninsulated dog beddingnthick fleece dog bedding

Why should customers be cautious with exaggerated fabric claims? +

Because not all weight claims are presented in the same way. Some sellers may use technical-sounding figures that seem more impressive but do not reflect the true grams per square metre. When shopping for vet bed, vetbed, or vet fleece, it is always worth checking whether the number given is a real GSM or a linear metre calculation presented as GSM.
